One Idea, Three Cards #1

1-3-memories-and-more-color-theory-1Today I'm beginning a feature that you'll see here on the blog called One Idea, Three Cards.  In response to  a questionaire that I sent to my mailing list, many responded that they had difficulty coming up with ideas.  It's my hope that you can see what helps me in creating and you'll try designing different cards using the same idea from a card you've created previously.  Let's take a look at the video tutorial below...

See this One Idea, Three Cards #1 Video on You Tube.

Here's the Stampin' Up! Supply List for the card that is assembled in the video.  Just click the links to access the online store.

Lisa's Inklings:

  • Crushed Curry base is cut at 4 1/4" x 11".
  • Color Theory Designer Series Paper Stack is cut at 4" x 5 1/4" for background layer and 3/4" x 4" for piece beneath ribbon.
  • Whisper White is cut 3/4" x 4" for sentiment and trimmed after stamping.
  • Trim the Color Theory card to 2 3/4" x 3 3/4".

1-3-birthday-delivery-1Here's another card using the same idea (sketch or card layout).  Can you see the common elements?

1-3-happy-birthday-thinlit-card-1Here's another cardmaking sample with the same idea. The focal point is the thinlit but the general assembly concept is the same.  You can see that even though all three cards have a different look, these all originated from the same idea. Really helps when you're trying to come up with an idea for a card!

Hope you enjoyed see these three handmade cards from one idea!

paper-crafting-tipToday's card making tip is one that you are more than likely using already but if you're just getting into the craft or just curious about what I do, let's talk about cutting card stock for the inside of your cards.  Many times, I'll wait until I'm ready to send the card to finish the inside. It's so nice to find that it's all ready to go when needed.

Here's the video with a few ideas on finishing the inside of your handmade cards.

You can see the video on my You Tube channel here.

Lisa's Inklings:

  • Keep a stack of Very Vanilla and Whisper White card stock cut at 4" x 5 1/4" for the insides of your cards.
  • Stamp a coordinating image on the Whisper White or Very Vanilla to decorate the inside of your cards.
  • You can get four pieces from one sheet of card stock.
  • Save the cut strips for stamped sentiments.
  • Save wide strips from other projects to use on the inside of your cards.  You can trim these to fit in length.

Makeover Monday Video Tutorial- Gift Certificate Holder

Makeover-monday-gift-certificate-holderThis week's makeover is a gift certificate holder that I made for my daughter who is a Senegence Distributor.

She was donating a door prize for a special event for nurses and wanted something pretty with a gift certificate.  Now, the "lips" and the doily are retired from the Occasions Catalog but you can use any appropriate stamp and embellishment!

Here's a look at the inside with the gift certificate that I made for her, too!

Gift-certificate-holder

Let's take a look at the original project video tutorial that inspired this card.

Lisa's Inkings:

  • The base is cut at 9 1/4" x 6 1/2".
  • Score the base at 3" and 6 1/4" with the 9 1/4" side at the top.
  • Layer of designer series paper is cut at 6 1/4" x 2 3/4".
  • Belly band is cut at 1" x 7 1/2".
  • Top embellishment is adhered to belly band so that is slips on and off easily.
  • The gift certificate is mounted on a piece of card stock for durability.  I printed the gift certificate on plain printer paper and it needed somethings to give it a little substance.

If you need some details about the products used in this makeover, please leave your question in the comment section below.

*On a personal note...

We have a busy month ahead of us...family reunion, new granddaughter's birth, and the Stampin' Up! Incentive Trip to Thailand that I earned for my husband and me thanks to so many of you and my awesome Stars Team! (Thank you!)  I've been very busy preparing projects and videos for you, but if I am "quiet" for a few days at some point, you'll know that something big is happening!   There are some exciting times ahead for the Mr. and me and our whole family.

Thanks for your understanding and for tuning in for today's gift certificate holder idea...see you again soon!

Patriotic Party Favor for Flag Day and Fourth of July

6-14-fourth-of-july-party-favorsTo celebrate Flag Day here in the U.S., let's make these patriotic party favors!  These little treat cones always turn out cute and you can make them in any size by starting with a square piece of designer paper or cardstock.

Please forgive the fact that my treat cones are not stuffed with delectable goodies.  It's just too tempting for me!  So, I opt to stuff with shredded cardstock which will add to the look of your project even with or without the treats!

Embellishing these little cones has no boundaries.  Have glue dots?  Then, you're set to go!  I have found that the best adhesive to assemble to cone is Tear & Tape.  It's easy and convenient and provides a good stick.

Here's the how- to in today's video tutorial.  Have questions or suggestions?  Post in the comment section below!

See the Patriotic Party Favor for Flag Day and Fourth of July on You Tube HERE.

Lisa's Inklings:

  • For this favor, I started with a 3 x 3 piece of designer paper.  You make these starting with any size square.
  • Glue Dots make it easy to add ribbon and embellishments for these treats.
  • You can make these cones for any occasion!  See other examples HERE and HERE.
