Tuesday Tip: Card Stock Tips for Your Christmas Cards

Card-stock-tips-christmas-cards-11-14

Today's tips on card stock is one that may be helpful for you while working on your Christmas and holiday cards.  These tips are ones that I use every time that I make cards!  I realize that many of you may be aware of this already, but if not, you just might find this very helpful when making batches of cards...or, as I often say, a gazillion cards!

It's a quick video, so please take a couple of minutes to watch.  You just might find it to be a time saver when making cards!

Click here to see the Card Stock Tips video on You Tube.

Lisa's Inklings:

  • Keep a supply of these neutral card inserts in a box or container.  This way, you'll have what you need to complete a card at your fingertips.
  • You might be tempted to trash those extra 1/2" strips.  I can't tell you how many times these thin strips have "saved" me...and, I'm talking saving time!  Who can't use more of that?
  • If you'll keep a stack of both Very Vanilla and Whisper White, you'll always have the right neutral for whatever standard sized card you make.
  • Cutting instructions: With the 8 1/2" side at the top of your trimmer, cut at 4" and set aside, then take the remaining piece and cut at 4" again.  Save that 1/2" strip that is left over! Next, take each of the 4" strips and cut in half at 5 1/2". The long side should be up across the top of your trimmer.

Make A Thanksgiving Hostess Gift!

Diy-hostess-gift-1Today's project is a great idea for a Thanksgiving or holiday dinner hostess gift.   It's a jumbo size tag that serves as a type of gift packaging for a pretty fall themed kitchen towel.  The beautiful Gourdness provides the main image with the Autumn Harvest Designer Series Paper as the backdrop.  You can see another video using this set in yesterday's tip post HERE.

Customer Q & A- Traveling with Crafting Supplies

Traveling.blog-post-image

Recently, I received a question via email regarding how I travel with crafting supplies.  Since I am on the road quite a bit, I was able to share what works for me.  Possibly, this will be of help to some of you.

Most of the time, I will pack my kits (Paper Pumpkin or kits from the catalog) when I travel.  Most everything I need is in the kit.  If not, I usually just need to add ink, adhesive, and clear blocks to my bag. I always take my Paper Snips and my Stampin' Trimmer and some extra neutral card stock just in case! (Whisper White and Very Vanilla).

For working on specific types of cards or holiday cards, I would choose the stamp set(s) and the designer paper that I wanted to use.  From there, decide on your base and layers for your card stock and ink colors as well as ribbon and other embellishments.  For travel, I usually pack punches (circle punches, label punches, and punches that coordinate with stamp sets I've chosen) rather than try to carry the Big Shot.  Again, you'll need your basic tools and adhesive.

For air travel, supplies are packed in a soft sided carry on that zips.  It needs to have a bottom large enough and sturdy enough for your designer paper, card stock, and paper trimmer.  By car, I carry items in clear storage boxes with snap on lids. Embellishments fit in a divided storage pouch or a plastic shoe box. On my list to purchase are some 12 x 12 plastic storage boxes for my designer paper.
Since much of my travel is back and forth between Missouri and Texas, I do have doubles of the Big Shot, trimmer, inks, markers, card stock colors, and some punches.  I travel with stamp sets, designer paper, embellishments, and framelits.

Hope this is helpful.  Please feel free to ask questions about traveling with your crafting supplies!

Stampin-up-2017-christmas-card-idea-4aThe fourth in a series of 2017 Stampin' Up! Christmas Cards features the new Stampin' Blends and the Christmas in the Making stamp set.

In yesterday's video tutorial, I demonstrated the process of coloring this little miss that's from one of my favorite sets in the Holiday Catalog.  It's so much fun to color and I've gotten to "practice" a lot with my new Blends.  I like to stamp a lot of images and put them in a box with my Stampin' Blends.  Then, I can carry with me while traveling, to appointments...anywhere that I'll have some time to sit and "wait".  The complete set fits nicely in one of my old Paper Pumpkin boxes.

Let's take a look at the assembly of the card in today's video tutorial...
