Makeover Monday Video Tutorial- Make a Masculine Birthday Card

Masculine-birthday-card-1-8-14This week's Makeover Monday features the Pick A Pattern Designer Series Paper for a fun and bright masculine birthday card.

I'm sure you've you heard the saying "let your fingers do the walking" in reference to the Yellow Pages in a phone directory (or, maybe that was before your time).  Today, I say "let the paper do the talking"!  If you have some bold and vibrant designer series paper, a simple sentiment and embellishments will be a good finishing touch.

Let's take a look at the inspiration for this card in the following video tutorial.

You can also find this masculine card video HERE on You Tube.

Here are the supplies used for today's card.  Shop easily by clicking on the link!  Host Code: A7H2YHVU

Tuesday Tip- Versamark Resist Technique

Tip-technique

Today's tip is an easy and fun technique using Glossy Card Stock called the VersaMark Resist or Ghosting Technique.  Stampin' Up! re-released the Glossy Card Stock in this year's Annual Catalog after being absent for a few years.  There are quite a few techniques that you can do with this shiny, glossy paper and I hope to share more of them with you.

This technique is similar to the emboss resist technique.  It eliminates the embossing with basically the same effect.

Let's take a look at this week's tip video...

You can view this video with the VersaMark Resist Technique on You Tube HERE.

One Idea, Three Cards #2

Birthday-delivery-card-1Today I have the next in a series of "One Idea, Three Cards".  Many times when we start to create, we'll take a lot of time just trying to come up with a good "idea".  I have found it very helpful to look at a card previously made and put a new spin on it such as you see in my Makeover Mondays.

In this series, you'll see one card being made with another two that were created and completed using the same idea (aka sketch).  This is a huge time saver especially for those of us who might have just a few minutes to sit down and create.  You can see the first in this series HERE.

Let's take a look at the video then read on to see the other two cards.

You can see this birthday card video on You Tube HERE.

Here is the list of Stampin' Up! Products for this Birthday Delivery Card.

Cool-treats-birthday-cardHere's a look at the second card using this idea with the sentiment stamped directly on the base of the card!

Wood-crate-birthday-cardOn this card, a ribbon with tag is used in place of the stamped strip of Whisper White card stock.  The focal point  idea is still the same.

Birthday-delivery-card-2You'll be surprised how helpful it is to use the design or idea from another card!  Thanks for joining in today and I hope you'll try this idea for your next cardmaking project!

Tuesday Tip- Clustering Technique

Tip-clustering

For today's tip, here's a fun technique that's easy to do with your clear photopolymer sentiment stamps.  Create an awesome background or partial background for a unique, one of a kind look.

For best results, use a bold color and a lighter shade of the same hue.  Let's take a look at the video...please forgive the static in a couple of places.  I can't seem to figure out what's causing that!

See the clustering technique video here on You Tube.

Rubber-stamping-technique-clustering-1Lisa's Inklings:

  • Easier to do this technique by looking down directly over your card stock.  (Recording did not allow me to do that!)
  • Odd number of rows is more pleasing to the eye.
  • The two rhinestones at the top covered two oops! ink spots.
  • Try this technique at an angle on your card front.

Makeover Monday Video Tutorial- Tying Ribbon in Cardmaking

Tying-ribbon-cardmaking-1Welcome to this week's Makeover Monday where you can learn an easy way to tie ribbons on your card making projects.  This is a simple but classic layout on this birthday card and the ribbon is the finishing touch.

For this design you can use any designer paper, coordinating card stock and ribbon.  You can let the designer paper be in the spotlight and add a simple sentiment for any occasion.   This paper is retiring and discounted (Click HERE---it may still be available!), and if you're like most paper crafters, you have a stash that you can dig through to make this work.

Take a look at the video below and read on for information on cutting dimensions.

Lisa's Inklings:

  • Card base is cut 4 1/4" x 11" and scored at 5 1/2".
  • Cut your designer paper at 4" x 5 1/4" and a different coordinating print at 1 1/4" x 4".
  • Use a contrasting color of  coordinating card stock and cut at 1 1/2" x 4" to back the strip of designer paper.
  • You'll need a piece of a light color neutral to stamp and punch your sentiment.
  • Notice that I leave the ribbon on the spool in the video.  If you can do this, you'll save on ribbon by not cutting it too short or too long.

Just wanted to remind you that there are still many items available on the 2017 Stampin' Up! Retiring List.
