Cardmaking Tip: Fixing Mistakes and Keeping It Real

Today's cardmaking tip video is keeping it real regarding fixing mistakes.  Initially, it started out as a cardmaking video tutorial but it just wasn't heading in the right direction as far as tutorials go.  I was encountering one "oops" after another.  Finally, I just threw my hands up in the air and muttered "Are you KIDDING me??!!"  At that point, it was time to press stop while recording and go to Plan B.

With the next recording, I decided that it would be a good idea to just give a tip on how to fix some of my mistakes.  Good idea, right?  Sure it is.  While I wasn't totally happy with the fix and the outcome, I decided to go ahead with it.  The story needed to be told. :)

See this cardmaking tips, mistakes, and keeping it real video on You Tube HERE.

While the card didn't turn out how I had hoped, it is finished and I will send it to someone.

Lesson...we don't need to be so hard on ourselves when things are not "perfect".  We were not made to be perfect.  We were meant to be real, kind, and the best version of ourselves.  And, that's what we should all be working toward.  All attainable...progress not perfection.

Now if you like the products used on today's card, take a look at this post with a cute card and box.

Mini DIY Easter Basket with A Good Day

Mini-diy-easter-basket

This is the month we need to plan for Easter gift and treat packaging so here's a DIY mini basket idea for you.  It's a makeover from a past video tutorial that is just the right size for a few sweet treats or small gift.

I thought I'd try a monochromatic look with some paper and embellishment from the big annual catalog along with A Good Day (wood, clear) stamp set from the Occasions Catalog.  This is such a sweet set and you can see some more projects made with it HERE.

Min-diy-easter-basket-2Let's take a look at the project video tutorial that inspired today's makeover.

Click here to see the video that inspired the Mini DIY Easter Basket on You Tube.

Lisa's Inklings:

  • Cut the designer paper to 6" x 8".
  • Score on the 8" side at 2" and 6".
  • Score on the 6" side at 2" and 4".
  • Cut two strips of designer paper: One strip- 1/2" x 10" for handle and one strip 1/2" x 12'.
  • The 12" strip should be adhered to the top edge of the basket.  Start at center front and wrap around the top edge, bending around corners.  It will not meet the other end once you get back around to the front, but your stamped image and punched pieces will cover that.

Stampin' Blends Tip with Magical Day

Magical-day-stampin-blends-tipIt's a Magical kind of Day with this cute card and a Stampin' Blends tip. Oh my goodness!  I love this set!  Did you see the little knight on the card that was featured on Monday? These images are a lot of fun to color with Stampin' Blends, beautiful alcohol markers.  The supply on these is getting low so be sure you order yours soon!  The Pink Pirouette and Pool Party blends are not available but most of the others were still available as of this writing.

For today's technique tip, we will be using the Color Lifter to add some definition to the image.  The Color Lifter actually lifts the color off the paper.  I think it is so cool!  I'm by no means an expert in coloring with the Blends but I just have fun with it and encourage you to do so, too!  The best way to "learn" is to just play around with these markers.  You will be surprised how easy it is!

Let's take a look at today's video with Magical Day and Stampin' Blends.

Click here to see this Stampin' Blends tip with Magical Day on You Tube.

Lisa's Inklings:

  • This image is stamped and colored on Thick Whisper White card stock.
  • Always use Memento Tuxedo Black Ink when using the Stampin' Blends alcohol markers.
  • Use the Color Lifter to add dimension and accent to your images.

Make a Birthday Card with Magical Day!

Birthday-card-magical-day-1

Today's project is a fun birthday card with the Magical Day stamp set from the Occasions Catalog.

I love this set and the coordinating framelits and designer paper.  These products make a fun card for kids of all ages.   Last week, I made this box with a darling mermaid from the set.

The rich colors from the designer paper inspired the coloring of the knight with my Stampin' Blends.  I think I could color with those beauties all day long...so very relaxing.

This card is a makeover of the one seen in the video below.  I switched things up a bit since I needed to add a sentiment.  Rather than add another die cut or punched element, I decided to white emboss the sentiment directly on the card base.  It just pops on that Dapper Denim base, doesn't it?

Take a look at the video below to see the basic steps for this card.

Click here to see this birthday card video tutorial on You Tube.

Lisa's Inklings:

  • This is a great layout if you need a starting point for a card.
  • Use the designer paper that you choose as inspiration for your ink and card stock color choices.
  • Try combining patterns as I did on both the card in the video and the makeover with Magical Day.  Notice one print is bolder than the other on each card.
  • Click here to access the Ink and Inspirations Project Details for this makeover.
