A mother's memory keeping of her young child's life becomes part of history.

Many years before Ernest Hemingway wrote his first story, his mom was writing about him.

Yesterday, the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum in Boston released the content of five Hemingway scrapbooks and it is available online for the first time giving us a glimpse into his childhood and school age years on the 114th anniversary of his birth.

The scrapbooks are part of the collection that Hemingway's widow, Mary, gifted to the JFK Library and Museum after the author's 1961 suicide. Sean Hemingway said he's excited by their public release and called them one of the ways he's become familiar with a grandfather he never met.

"He died before I was born," the 46-year-old said. "Looking at these kinds of things ... I feel like I have gotten a chance to know him a bit."


Thus, the loving works of a mother has provided us with

"an unprecedented glimpse into the making of one of the greatest writers of the 20th century,” said Tom Putnam, Director of the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum. “From the everyday minutia of childhood, to priceless early correspondence and writings, the scrapbooks are a treasure trove for anyone interested in the early life of Ernest Hemingway."

Tip:

Cut a piece of card stock at 4-1/4 x 5-1/2.  Center your choice of oval framelit and cut. Use this piece as a mask to stamp your floral images on the Whisper White card stock.
