A Summer Solstice Card Like You've Never Seen Before-Mixed Media with Stampin' Up!

In celebrating the beginning of summer and the Summer Solstice, I've created a Mixed Media card with many Stampin' Up! products.
Let's take a look at the process.
Lots of photos ahead!

First, the sun and rays were freehanded and cut from lightweight chipboard that was part of some Stampin' Up! packaging for a Bigz die. These were adhered to piece of Whisper White card stock.

Next, I used a stencil created for me by a member of my ink and inspirations team, Catherine Stewart.  Catherine used a stamp brush image from My Digital Studio  set to cut this with her Cameo and a Window Sheet from Stampin' Up!  DIY Smooth Texture Paste was used to create some interest and depth.  The rays of the sun were masked off with post its.

Entire layer covered with white gesso.

The gesso preps the layers for sprays and inks that will be added.

A mixture of alcohol and ink refill in a Stampin' Spritzer creates the perfect spray to add a splash of color. The cut negative image of the chipboard masked off the top of the layer.

Drying in between applications of paints/inks/sprays/pastes is very important.

Color was added to the rays with a Sponge Dauber and Stampin' Up! Crushed Curry Ink.

The blue sky added with Lost Lagoon ink and Sponge Dauber.

More ink added...this time Island Indigo. Notice the blue ink on some of the rays.  I wanted to try to fix that but wasn't sure how and with Mixed Media, you don't start over...just keep a-goin'!

I tried adding some Crushed Curry Ink over the unwanted blue on the rays but made a totally different and surprising discovery...

After "coloring" over those unwanted blue smears with the Blender Pen; an old rag (a very sophisticated tool, right?) did the trick and wiped those away!

Next, the sun and rays were outlined with a Basic Black Stampin' Write Marker and smudged with the Blender Pen.  I wanted a black sooty look to accent these areas.

Alphabet Rotary Stamp and Day by Day Photopolymer Set add the wording.

Sparkly star sequins were added from the In Color Sequin Collection(133631) to symbolize the longest day/transition to night of the Summer Solstice.
