I thought it would be fitting to share some patriotic projects from the past today.  These aren't necessarily projects for Memorial Day but those that bear our nation's colors.

See the full card and video for the project below HERE.

Another Tri-Fold Card Idea

Trifold-fun-fold-cardIt doesn't matter how many of these tri-fold cards that I make, it's new and fresh every time!   This is a fun fold idea for a card using a beautiful panel of your favorite designer paper. Here is another version and a video.

The designer paper panel is held closed with a coordinating ribbon and here's the finished look of the inside.

Trifold-fun-fold-card-ideaTo make it easy for you, here are the project details for cutting and scoring.

Tri-Fold Card

  • Cut designer paper 5-1/4" x 12".  Score ar 4" and 8".
  • Slice off 1/8" on the right edge.  This will be the side that folds in first.
  • Whisper White for Base: 5-1/2" x 4 1/4".
  • For inside of card: Whisper White 3-1/2" x 4 3/4", Lovely Lipstick 3-3/4" x 5".
  • You will also need enough Whisper White and Lovely Lipstick to punch the circles.
  • You'll need another piece of Whisper White to stamp and fussy cut the flower for the front.

Scrapbooking and Memory Keeping Ideas and Tips

Let's talk a little about scrapbooking and memory keeping.  In this post, you will hear and see a bit about how I go about preserving memories with photos and journaling.

This information was shared on my Facebook page, Ink and Inspirations with Lisa Brown, earlier this month on International Scrapbooking Day.   If you scrapbook or have ever thought about preserving your photos and memories, I hope you find this information helpful.

Scrapbooking-titles-tipTip: I find it easier to die cut my letters in Whisper White or Very Vanilla then sponge on the ink in the color I need/want depending on the layout.

These letter dies are retiring!  If you scrapbook, these are GREAT to have! Get yours here! ---> http://bit.ly/large-letters-stampin-up

Scrapbooking-traditional-page-friends

Here's the traditional layout that was created on the back of the Mount Rushmore page shown in the video above. Below is the stamp set that was used. It is "retiring", too.  It's a good one for travel pages.  Click the image below to see the En Route stamp set in the online store.

Below you can see how I cut my 4 x 6 photos in half to fit into two, 3 x 4 pockets.

Scrapbooking-tip-photos-half

Scrapbooking-tip-photos-2

Here's are two more tips regarding the next photo below:

  • Notice the upper right pocket. I added a 1-1/2” strip of Whisper White to the Memories and More Card. I’ll use this for my page title.
  • The photos have been cut down to 3 x 4.

Personal note: I realize that years from now these animal photos will not be “cherished” 🙂. But, my written memories will be. And, for now, we enjoy them. Plus, I figure that I’ll use these as a teaching tool for the grandchildren.

Scrapbooking-tip-animale

Using the Designer Paper that coordinates with the Happiness Blooms Memories and More Card Kit, I cut 4x6 or 3x4 pieces for fillers on pocket pages. Cut strips or use as layers for traditional pages.

Handmade Card with His Grace [Retiring Stamp Set]

..

When seeing the His Grace stamp set in the Stampin' Up! Occasions catalog, it went on my Wish List and I am so glad to finally have it for some handmade cards.  The John 3:16 verse is one that will be used over and over again on cards for the Caring Cards Ministry in our church.  Be sure to put it in your cart since this beauty did not make the carry over list into the new catalog.

Handmade-card-with-his-grace

On this particular card, the designer paper has already sold out as it was on the retiring list but you will be able to use card stock or a designer paper with a small print or pattern to get the same effect.

Here's the video tutorial for today's cardmaking project.

Here are the supplies for this project.  Just click the links below for more information.

Another Hobby of Mine

Sewing.blog-post-imageToday I wanted to share a little about another hobby of mine...sewing!

I have been sewing for many years.  I took a bit of a break when my girls were were born.  I just didn't have the time with working outside the home and other mom "duties".  It's such a good feeling to have this skill and now that I have a little more time, I can sew occasionally for Lyla and Mia.

Growing up, my mom made most of my clothes including some of my prom dresses.  She had been sewing since she was a young girl.  I learned some of the basics from mom but  I enrolled in homemaking in 9th grade and there was a lengthy unit on sewing.  I remember that we had an assignment to make a dress or "pantsuit" (remember those?) and then model it in a spring style show at school.  That was pretty cool.

My machine brand of choice all these years has been Singer.  My little workhorse now is the Singer Quantum Stylist 9960.  I love it!

Here are some of my projects from the last few years...

I have made quite a few of this style of dress for Lyla.

Lyla-dressHere are two "matching" dresses that I made for Lyla and Mia.

Dress-1

Dress2

And, here are their Christmas dresses for 2017.

Dresses-mia-lyla-christmas

I'm thinking about trying this style for Mia next.  Lyla loved the bees in her storybooks so I found this fabric especially for her.

Lyla-dress-2Below you can see Mia's nursery quilt while it was still in progress.

Quilt-1And, this one is a jelly roll quilt for my Mom.

Jelly-roll-momLooking forward to my next project!  I hope to prepare some fabric and stitch it up soon.  I miss having my mom to ask for advice but I'm so grateful that we were able to share this common love.

Thanks for reading about my "other" hobby that has been part of my life for so long and I'll see you in the next post!
