Make An Easel Fold Birthday Card with a Summer Theme

Birthday-card-summer-themeToday's project is an easel-fold birthday card with a summer theme using the Sweet Ice Cream Bundle [156244] The combination of sweet images and bright colors makes this a really fun combo.  While the stamp set and punch carried over into the new Stampin' Up! Annual Catalog, the Ice Cream Corner Designer Series Paper [154567], will be discontinued.

Easel fold cards are great for displaying your handmade creation.  Here's another fun easel fold version HERE.

This card was created on a recent Facebook Live and was inspired by a card that I received while on my Stampin' Up! Incentive Trip to Maui.  You'll see that card toward the end of the video below.

Let's take a look at the assembly of this easel-fold birthday card with a summer theme.

I cannot tell you how many times that a die has disappeared while crafting. Even with my nifty tool that you'll see in the times I will forget to use it!  I've switched so that I have it in plain view and within easy reach. It is a time saver and alleviates a lot of frustration for me.  Let's take a look at this nifty tool! ;)

Customer Spotlight: Connie Cornelio

Welcome to our Customer Spotlight with Connie Cornelio!  Connie is a long-time customer and one of my major contributors of beautiful card samples to my customer VIP group!

Our Customer Spotlight highlights one of my Stampin' Up! customers that agrees to share some information about themselves by answering a short survey.  Here's Connie!

1. How long have you been paper crafting?

I have been crafting my whole life but only paper crafting for 10 years.

2. What is your favorite stamp set?

My favorite stamp set and DSP is Forever Fern.
I also like Tempting Tulips and Lemon Zest!

3. What is your favorite color or color combination?

Boy, this changes every year but this year I am really drawn to two colors: Pear Pizazz and Misty Moonlight. I love all the greens!

4. What is your favorite type of paper crafting project or technique?

My favorite crafting projects are the fun folds and this year I am really getting into the Stampin Blends.

5. What is your best tip for your fellow paper crafters?

My tip is don’t be afraid to make a mistake. With stamping, you can always add an extra layer or a ribbon or an embellishment to cover up any error.

Cardmaking 101 Tips: Mailing Your Beautiful Handmade Creations With All Those Embellishments

Blank 2000 x 2000 copy copy copy-5
There are some points to consider when mailing those beautiful handmade creations with embellishments.
You know the cards I am talking about here, right? The ones with bows, jewels, brads, buttons...all. the. things.
Here are a few tips (from personal experience) for mailing these types of cards:
  1. Try using a piece of cardstock as a "buffer" to protect the card and prevent those embellishments from poking through the envelope. Cut a piece of card stock the size of the card so that it will slide easily into the envelope.

  2. You can also try dry embossing this piece of cardstock with an embossing folder. This will give it a better fit around those beautiful cards with embellishments...some extra padding if you will. :)

  3. Postage?
If the card inside the envelope will not fit through a 1/4" slot (referred to as non-machinable) or weighs more than 1 oz., you will need extra postage. I have been using a first-class stamp plus an extra ounce stamp but the post office employee shared this 2 oz stamp with me recently. #pretty

  4. What about size? From the USPS site... For a mailpiece to be eligible for First-Class Mail letter rates, it must be at least 3-1/2 inches by 5 inches by 0.007-inch thick, and no more than 6-1/8 inches by 11–1/2 inches by 1/4-inch thick. If the mailpiece falls within these dimensions, it is classified as a letter.

Here are a few examples of these handmade cards with embellishments that probably need extra postage and a little TLC:

  • Using ribbon and dimensionals on these cards made these pretty "bumpy".
  • The extra layers, ribbon, and rhinestones on this card...yes, extra postage.
  • Fun fold cards like this one are usually more than 1/4" thick.

Now that you've read these tips, leave a comment and let me know to whom you plan to mail your next card!

Protect those beautiful handmade creations with all those pretty embellishments when you send them through the mail and your gifts from the heart will be blessings to those who receive them.

Using the Early Espresso watercolor pencil color a “dirt line on each bat handle and down the length of the bats.
Using the Water painters go over the dirt marks to cause the dirty wood look.
Using Early Espresso Ink stamp the sentiments for A Grand Kid stamp set and place dimensionals on the back of each bat.
Layer the bats onto the card.
Cut out two baseballs using the smallest circle from the layering circle dies and Basic white cardstock.
Use one circle to trace the half circles onto the ball. Trace using the real red watercolor pencil. Add dirt to the ball in the same way you did to the bats.

Birthday-card-made-wiith-stampin-up-very-versailles-stamp-setToday's cardmaking project features a birthday card made with another favorite that carried over into the new Stampin' Up! Catalog, Very Versailles.

The images in this set have so much versatility and don't you love the "Have A Beautiful Day" as a birthday greeting?  Here's another card made with Very Versailles that I think you'll enjoy.

Here's the step-by-step how-to followed by the supplies used for this birthday card with Stampin' Up! Very Versailles.

Card Base: Pear Pizzazz Cardstock 11” x 4-1/4”. Score and fold at 5-1/2”
Cardstock #2: Basic White Cardstock 5-1/4” x 4”
Designer Paper: In Good Taste Designer Paper 5” x 3-3/4”
Cardstock #3: Basic White Cardstock 3-1/4” x 3-1/4”
Designer Paper: In Good Taste Designer Paper 3” x 3”

-Glue Basic White Cardstock to Pear Pizzazz Card Base.
-Glue the In Good Taste Designer Paper to card front.
-Using the smallest piece of designer paper, stamp the leaf image to the left and bottom using Pear Pizzazz Ink. -Stamp the script image to fill in the background around the leaves using Early Espresso Ink. Glue to the smallest -Basic White Cardstock layer. Punch a hole in both corners at the top with the handheld punch. Set aside.
-Stamp the medallion image on a scrap piece of Seaside Spray Cardstock using Early Espresso Ink. Cut the shape with the Stitched So Sweetly Dies. Glue to the center of the stamped layer using Stampin’ Dimensionals.
-Stamp the sentiment on a scrap piece of Basic White Cardstock. Cut with the Stitched So Sweetly Dies. Glue to the center of the medallion layer using Stampin’ Dimensionals.
-Tie Linen thread at the top of the stamped layer through the holes to create a hanging sign. It’s easiest if you tie the left side into a bow and tie the right side into a knot. Add the two ribbons by tying into knots on the right through the Linen Thread. Trim the ends into angles.
-Glue sign layer to card front using Stampin’ Dimensionals.
-Add a Gold Glitter Enamel Dot to hang the sign by the Linen Thread by adding two layers of Mini Glue Dots under the enamel dot so it is elevated.
