Make An Easel Fold Birthday Card with a Summer Theme

Birthday-card-summer-themeToday's project is an easel-fold birthday card with a summer theme using the Sweet Ice Cream Bundle [156244] The combination of sweet images and bright colors makes this a really fun combo.  While the stamp set and punch carried over into the new Stampin' Up! Annual Catalog, the Ice Cream Corner Designer Series Paper [154567], will be discontinued.

Easel fold cards are great for displaying your handmade creation.  Here's another fun easel fold version HERE.

This card was created on a recent Facebook Live and was inspired by a card that I received while on my Stampin' Up! Incentive Trip to Maui.  You'll see that card toward the end of the video below.

Cardmaking 101 Tips: Mailing Your Beautiful Handmade Creations With All Those Embellishments

Blank 2000 x 2000 copy copy copy-5

There are some points to consider when mailing those beautiful handmade creations with embellishments.

You know the cards I am talking about here, right? The ones with bows, jewels, brads, buttons...all. the. things.

Here are a few tips (from personal experience) for mailing these types of cards:

  1. Try using a piece of cardstock as a "buffer" to protect the card and prevent those embellishments from poking through the envelope. Cut a piece of card stock the size of the card so that it will slide easily into the envelope.

  2. You can also try dry embossing this piece of cardstock with an embossing folder. This will give it a better fit around those beautiful cards with embellishments...some extra padding if you will. :)

  3. Postage?
If the card inside the envelope will not fit through a 1/4" slot (referred to as non-machinable) or weighs more than 1 oz., you will need extra postage. I have been using a first-class stamp plus an extra ounce stamp but the post office employee shared this 2 oz stamp with me recently. #pretty

  4. What about size? From the USPS site... For a mailpiece to be eligible for First-Class Mail letter rates, it must be at least 3-1/2 inches by 5 inches by 0.007-inch thick, and no more than 6-1/8 inches by 11–1/2 inches by 1/4-inch thick. If the mailpiece falls within these dimensions, it is classified as a letter.

Here are a few examples of these handmade cards with embellishments that probably need extra postage and a little TLC:

  • Using ribbon and dimensionals on these cards made these pretty "bumpy".
  • The extra layers, ribbon, and rhinestones on this card...yes, extra postage.
  • Fun fold cards like this one are usually more than 1/4" thick.

Now that you've read these tips, leave a comment and let me know to whom you plan to mail your next card!

Protect those beautiful handmade creations with all those pretty embellishments when you send them through the mail and your gifts from the heart will be blessings to those who receive them.

Designer Paper: In Good Taste Designer Paper 3” x 3”

Instructions:
-Glue Basic White Cardstock to Pear Pizzazz Card Base.
-Glue the In Good Taste Designer Paper to card front.
-Using the smallest piece of designer paper, stamp the leaf image to the left and bottom using Pear Pizzazz Ink. -Stamp the script image to fill in the background around the leaves using Early Espresso Ink. Glue to the smallest -Basic White Cardstock layer. Punch a hole in both corners at the top with the handheld punch. Set aside.
-Stamp the medallion image on a scrap piece of Seaside Spray Cardstock using Early Espresso Ink. Cut the shape with the Stitched So Sweetly Dies. Glue to the center of the stamped layer using Stampin’ Dimensionals.
