Valentine Card for a Friend

Valentine-card-for-a-friendWith Valentine's Day approaching in a couple of weeks, here's a card idea for a friend using the beautiful Country Bouquet Photopolymer Stamp Set [160377], Country Floral Lane 12" X 12" Designer Series Paper [160375], and Country Gingham 6" X 6" Designer Series Paper [160388].

This card is also a self-standing fun fold with plenty of space to write your message on the back.

Valentine-card-for-a-friend-3You can see this same card style and video tutorial with a Valentine's theme in a different colorway HERE.

You can make this card with or without the ribbon accent.  The floral heart is stamped and then fussy cut into a smooth heart edge. Then this heart was placed on a piece of Crumb Cake Cardstock [120953] and cut so that a 1/8" border was visible around the edge.

Another Card with the No Line Watercolor Technique

Simple-no-line-watercolor-stampin-up-card-2

For today's project here on Ink and Inspirations, we have another card featuring the no-line watercolor technique using the Stampin' Up! clear Wink of Stella Glitter Brush. This is a very easy technique that I first demonstrated in my live video last week on Facebook and YouTube. I wanted to share another card using this same technique.

The Dainty Designs has some floral images that are perfect for this technique. With small flowers and delicate stems, it's easy to paint overtop using the tip of your Wink of Stella brush. This is also a technique that can be finished easily and quickly while providing beautiful results. Your family and friends will love the cards you make with this technique.

Suggestion: When gathering your supplies to create a card like this, include a light neutral ink such as Stampin' Up! Sahara Sand, the clear week of stellar brush, and our fluid 100 watercolor paper that is thick and rich and really makes your project look beautiful.

In the video below, I will go through the entire watercolor process. It doesn't take very long as you will be able to see. Be sure you stay and watch through the end of the video to see a photo of the finished card with some adjustments that were made and why I made them.  Let's take a look at this fun watercolor technique using Wink of Stella.

No-Line Watercoloring Technique for Handmade Cards

No-line-watercolor-technique-cardmaking-2

This cardmaking project features a "new-to-me" technique called no-line watercoloring. With this project, instead of water, we will be using a clear Wink of Stella Glitter Brush.

The image you see on this card is from the Dainty Delight Cling Stamp Set [161078] from the Stampin' Up! Mini Catalog.  That gorgeous paper in the background is from the Dainty Flowers 12" X 12"Designer Series Paper [160834] that you can earn free with a $50 purchase from my Stampin' Up! Online Store during our huge Sale-A-Bration promotion which continues through the end of February 2023. This paper has been extremely popular and for good reason. It is absolutely beautiful and can be used to make so many beautiful cards.

Dainty-flowers

In the video below, you'll see this technique and this easy fun fold plus I will show off this stack of designer papers so you can see just exactly what all the good fuss is about.

This technique gives you that artistic feel. But, it's very simple to achieve by using a light color ink and then applying our classic inks with the Wink of Stella Glitter Brush. This technique could also be accomplished by using water with our Water Painters and our classic inks. Using the glitter brush gives that little bit of sparkle that makes it extra special.

In the video below, you can see this technique, how easy it is, and also this beautiful collection of designer papers. If you continue watching the video, you'll also see another beautiful card using these designer papers that you can earn for free. Let's take a look...

Lisa's Inklings:

  • The card base is cut 5 1/2 x 8 1/2.  Fold in half at 4 1/4 and then fold the card front in half back to the fold.
  • Basic White for the inside of the card is cut at 2 x 5 3/8.
  • Two prints of the designer paper are cut at 2 x 5 3/8.
  • Watercolor paper is cut at 2 x 3 3/8.
  • You will need a piece of Mossy Meadow to back the sentiment and to die-cut the label that is behind the main image.

Easy DIY 2023 Calendar

Share-a-milkshake-calendar-2Today's project is an easy DIY 2023 calendar made with a sweet bundle from the Stampin' Up! Mini catalog, Share A Milkshake Bundle [160396].

It's still January so you can continue to make calendars to share with friends, family, and co-workers.

Earlier this month, this style of calendar was shared on my mini catalog launch with a different theme and different supplies.  While working with this ice cream-themed stamp set, I thought it would make a sweet calendar to have on my desk.

Share-a-milkshake-calendar-1

Below are the measurements and tips so that you can create some, too!

Lisa's Inklings:

  • Choose your stamp set and designer paper first.  This makes it easier to determine your colors for card stock and ink.
  • The base is cut 4 1/4 x 11 and scored at 5 1/2 just like a standard-sized card with a "tent" opening.
  • To support the base, you will need another piece of card stock in the same color cut at 4 1/4 x 4.  On the 4-inch side, score at 1/2, 2, and 3 1/2.
  • Burnish on the score lines to form a "w" shape with the two 1/2 inch scores folded up in a valley fold.  Apply adhesive to these two 1/2-inch panels and glue to the inside of the card base as seen in the first photo on this post.
  • Finish the front as desired. (For the sentiment, I stamped and cut the "life is sweet" from the longer version in the stamp set.)

Comment below with your email if you'd like information on the mini calendars.

Stampin' Up! Mardi Gras 2023 Fun Fold Card

2023-Mardi-Gras-fun-fold-card-1It's that time of the year again and so to keep in step with the Mardi Gras season, here's a Stampin' Up! fun fold card made with one of those adorable characters from the Playing in the Rain Bundle.  Be sure to check out both projects from that LIVE.

Although this was shared last week, I wanted to share a how-to video with not as much chatter and with a festive switch of a theme.  When I saw that fox with an umbrella, I knew I had to dress him up for Mardi Gras.

Here's the video then read on for the details...

Lisa's Inklings:

  • The base for this fun fold card is cut at 5 1/2" x 8 1/2".
  • Score on the long side at 2, 3 1/8, 5 3/8, and 6 1/2.
  • Layers for outside panels are (2) 5 3/8 x 1 7/8, and (2) 5 1/4 x 1 3/4.
  • The inner layers are (2) 5 3/8 x 1 and Basic White 2 x 5 3/8.
  • Decorate the outside as desired.  If using ribbon for a closure, wrap-around card adhering to the top with the main images adhered over top of that.

Fun Fold Card and Valentine's Treat Holder with Stampin' Up! Playing in the Rain

YouTube Premiere Thumbnail(2)Yesterday's LIVE demonstration on Facebook and YouTube featured a fun fold card and Valentine's Treat Holder with the new Stampin' Up! Playing in the Rain.

These whimsical characters from the stamp set and coordinating specialty designer series paper make some adorable projects!  The card shared here earlier this week was another example of super cuteness overload!

Here's the fun fold...

Fun-fold-card-playing-in-the-rain-1You can see that the designer paper was strategically cut to make an outdoor scene with this little turtle in a field of daisies.

Fun-fold-card-playing-in-the-rain-3Here's the open card with space for writing a message. I left it without an inside sentiment until I decide for what occasion the card would be sent. Fun-fold-card-playing-in-the-rain
In this close-up of our friend, Mr. Turtle, notice that the bridge is only adhered on the two sides and in a couple of places along the bottom.

Here are some of the details and dimensions for this card...

Lisa's Inklings for the fun fold:

  • The base is cut 5 1/2 x 8 1/2.  Score at 2, 3 1/8, 5 3/8 and 6 1/2 on the long side.
  • Two pieces of patterned paper for the outside are cut 5 3/8 x 1 7/8.
  • Two pieces of coordinating patterned paper are cut 5 3/8 x 1 for the inside panels.
  • Basic White piece for the inside is cut at 5 1/4 x 2.
  • When adhering the main image to the card front, adhere to only one of the panels (top or bottom).  The other side just overlaps.
  • Burnishing with a Bone Folder on all of the folds is a very important step.

2023-valentine-treat-holder-playing-in-the-rain-1This simple Valentine's treat holder is a larger version of a gift from one of my team members last year.  You begin with a 12 x 12 piece of designer paper and with a few cuts and a few folds, you've got a darling little two-pocket treat holder.

Here are the scoring measurements for this project.  It's best to watch this section of the video to see the assembly.

Lisa's Inklings for the Valentine's treat holder:

  • Start with a 12 x 12 sheet of card stock or paper.  Cut one side to measure 10 inches.
  • Score the 12-inch side and 4 and 8.  Score the 10-inch side at 4, 5, and 6.
  • You will make a diagonal cut on the four corners.

Watch the video below. This Valentine's treat is the first project.

And, here are the stars of the show...

Let's Go Fly A Kite with Stampin' Up! Playing in the Rain

Playing-in-the-rain-card-kite-1

Stampin' Up! Playing In The Rain Bundle (English) [160551] is our featured product this week here on Ink and inspirations.

This stamp set and coordinating dies are from the Rain or Shine Suite Collection in the new mini catalog. The characters in this stamp set and designer paper are adorable! Even better is the ability to cut so many of these images with the dies or with your Paper Snips [103579] to use on your cardmaking or scrapbook projects.

Playing in the Rain

This card was fun to create and I know our granddaughters will love it!  Do you have any littles in your life that would enjoy a card like this? Or, heck, how about any of your young-at-heart friends?

The card background is taken from one of the designer series paper sheets and the only stamping on this card is the sentiment.

Here are a few details so that you can assemble this card yourself.

Lisa's Inklings:

  • Balmy Blue Cardstock [146982] base is cut 5 1/2 x 8 1/2 and folded at the 4 1/4 mark.
  • The Rain Or Shine Specialty 12" X 12" Designer Series Paper [160540] for the background is cut from the middle of the landscape page with the sky and flower field.
  • For the bunny, you can die-cut or fussy-cut with scissors the bunny from designer paper.
  • The cloud is fussy-cut from designer paper.
  • Die cut the kite in Basic White.  I used the same die to cut a piece from the designer paper for the kite itself as well as the bows on the tail.
  • For the twine string on the kite, I stretched some glue dots to make the cross on the kite then used another glue dot for the string to extend from the kite center to the bunny's hand.
  • The sentiment is stamped on a scrap piece of designer paper then fussy cut and applied with Dimensional adhesive.
  • The bows adhere to the tail with Glue Dots.
  • Note: Dimensionals are used to adhere the cloud, bunny, kite, and sentiment.
