Something Special To Share for Valentine's Day
February 14, 2023
Today I have something special to share for Valentine's Day.
Jackie and I began visiting our local Senior Citizen Center back in 2017 with my mom and dad. They were going daily for community, fellowship, and a good hot lunch! At the time, they were staying with us due to the damages their home had incurred during the flooding of Hurricane Harvey.
As we continued to visit the Senior Citizen Center with them, we developed relationships with some very special people, some who passed on, including my mom and dad, and some whose friendships we still nurture and maintain.
Earlier this month, I spoke to the director about possibly doing a cardmaking activity with the group that attends. She asked if they could make Valentine's cards. and I was happy to say yes! A few days later, I began to plan a simple but pretty card that they could easily assemble. I also decided that a little Valentine's treat box might be a good idea so I designed one that was simple. After cutting and scoring, the project was ready with an easy assembly and some candy to tuck inside.
As you can see from the photos, they really seemed to enjoy the activity.
And, of course, Jackie was my right hand helping me all along the way. We enjoyed it just as much, if not more, than the participants!
Cardmaking and paper crafting is very special. I have always said that it is a very giving craft because most of what we create, we give away and share with others.
That was the case with each one of these special attendees that were creating their cards and projects with someone special in mind. It could have been a friend, a parent, or grandchildren. All the same, you could sense the love that was being put into each creation.
It did my heart good. And, I hope that you enjoy looking at these photos and are inspired by how you can possibly share this special craft of ours with some special people in your life.
Happy Valentine's Day!
