Paper Piecing in Cardmaking and Quilting

Quiilting-and-paper-piecing-in-cardmakingPaper piecing in cardmaking and quilting are very similar as both involve arranging various small pieces to create an artistic design.  Both involve using different patterns and colors to construct a visually appealing project.

Today's cardmaking project involves such paper piecing to create a pretty and stunning backdrop for stamped and die-cut images from the Earthen Textures Bundle [161514].

Here is the pattern information so that you can create your own paper-crafting quilt!

  1. Choose three patterns of designer series paper.  On this card, the Earthen Elegance 12" X 12" Designer Series Paper [161503] is featured.
  2. Two patterns with neutral browns were chosen.  The upper left pattern is cut 2 1/2" x 3 3/4" and the lower right piece is cut 1 1/4" x 1 1/4".
  3. In the upper right corner in a Misty Moonlight pattern cut at 1 1/4" x 3 3/4".
  4. The lower left piece is Misty Moonlight 8-1/2" X 11" Cardstock [153081] stamped with an image from the Earthen Textures Bundle (English) [161514] in the same color using a Misty Moonlight Classic Stampin' Pad [153118].  It is cut at 2 1/2" x 1 1/4".
  5. All of these pieces adhere to a base of Basic White 8 1/2" X 11" Cardstock [159276] cut at 4" x 5 1/4".
  6. The card base is cut at 4 1/4" x 11".
  7. To provide a subtle backdrop for the stamped and die-cut pieces, a Decorative Circle [159174]  was punched from Vellum 8-1/2" X 11" Cardstock [101856].

Paper-piecing-cardmakingFinding different options to highlight our designer series papers is a favorite of mine.  This style is easy and can be used with any of your papers providing a sweet backdrop for your stamped and die-cut images.

Quilting allows for larger-scale designs and many with intricate piercings while cardmaking offers a smaller canvas for projects. Both paper piecing in cardmaking and quilting offer many opportunities to express your creativity.  Now that you have the pattern details, try this paper-piecing cardmaking design and share a photo of your project with me!
