It's Much More Than Stamps, Ink, and Paper

Supplies Added to Stampin’ Up! Clearance Rack! Shop Now! Lisa Brown inkandinspirations.com(1)

As a fellow paper crafter and card maker, I know firsthand how rewarding and fulfilling this hobby can be. But did you know that cardmaking can also have benefits that go beyond just the joy of creating something beautiful?

For many of us, cardmaking is a form of self-expression and creativity that allows us to tap into our innermost thoughts and feelings. When we create a card for someone, we're not just putting together a pretty design - we're also putting a little piece of ourselves into that card. Whether it's through the choice of colors, the style of the design, or the message we write inside, we're communicating something personal and meaningful to those who receive these creations.

In this way, cardmaking can be a form of therapy and healing. It allows us to express our emotions in a healthy and productive way, and to connect with others on a deeper level. When we give a card to someone, we're not just giving them a physical object - we're also giving them a piece of our heart often referred to as works of our he{art}.

Cardmaking can also be a form of mindfulness. When we sit down to create a card, we're focusing our attention on the task and let go of distractions and worries. We're immersing ourselves in the moment and allowing our creative energy to flow. This process can be so calming and rejuvenating and can help us feel more grounded and centered.

Finally, cardmaking can be a way to connect with our spirituality and faith. Whether we're creating cards for religious holidays or simply incorporating imagery and sentiments that are meaningful to us, cardmaking can be a form of prayer and devotion. As I am creating a card for a specific person, I will begin with a prayer for him or her.  This craft allows us to express our gratitude, love, and reverence in a tangible and meaningful way.

So, as you continue to explore the wonderful world of cardmaking, remember that there are emotional and spiritual benefits to this hobby that go far beyond the stamps, ink, and paper.

Now that you've read this post, leave a comment below and let me know what cardmaking has done for you or means to you.

Keep creating and sharing your beautiful cards with others, and know that you are also enriching your own life in the process.

It's A Fiesta! Birthday with Stampin' Up! Taco Fiesta

Taco-fiesta-birthday-card-stampin-upToday's project is a birthday card using Stampin' Up! Taco Fiesta Photopolymer Stamp Set [160732] that was featured in our LIVE broadcast this week.

This is a precious stamp set and the paper strip technique on this card was just the right choice!

This cardmaking technique is created by starting off with 1/2" strips that are about 6" long. As you'll see in the video, it's very easy to get started.  Let's take a look...

Lisa's Inklings:

  • For this card, these 1/2" strips were arranged to a piece of Basic White cut at 4 x 5 1/4.
  • The placement of the first strip sets the angles and size of the overall pattern.
  • Patterned paper strips were used here but you can even use different colors of card stock.
  • Another option would be to alternate two different paper patterns.

If you enjoy this technique (and, using all those scraps), you'll enjoy this one, too!

Here's a look at the inside of the card...

Something Special To Share for Valentine's Day

Sr-group

Today I have something special to share for Valentine's Day.

Jackie and I began visiting our local Senior Citizen Center back in 2017 with my mom and dad. They were going daily for community, fellowship, and a good hot lunch! At the time, they were staying with us due to the damages their home had incurred during the flooding of Hurricane Harvey.

As we continued to visit the Senior Citizen Center with them, we developed relationships with some very special people, some who passed on, including my mom and dad, and some whose friendships we still nurture and maintain.

Valentine-projects-seniors-1

Earlier this month, I spoke to the director about possibly doing a cardmaking activity with the group that attends. She asked if they could make Valentine's cards. and I was happy to say yes!  A few days later, I began to plan a simple but pretty card that they could easily assemble. I also decided that a little Valentine's treat box might be a good idea so I designed one that was simple. After cutting and scoring, the project was ready with an easy assembly and some candy to tuck inside.

Sr-valentine-projects

As you can see from the photos, they really seemed to enjoy the activity.

Valentine-projects-sr-4

And, of course, Jackie was my right hand helping me all along the way. We enjoyed it just as much, if not more, than the participants!

Valentine-projects-sr-3

Cardmaking and paper crafting is very special. I have always said that it is a very giving craft because most of what we create, we give away and share with others.

That was the case with each one of these special attendees that were creating their cards and projects with someone special in mind. It could have been a friend, a parent, or grandchildren. All the same, you could sense the love that was being put into each creation.

It did my heart good. And, I hope that you enjoy looking at these photos and are inspired by how you can possibly share this special craft of ours with some special people in your life.

Happy Valentine's Day!

Super Bowl Game Day is Tomorrow!

Super-bowl-game-day-football-bannerSuper Bowl Game Day is tomorrow and here's a party decor piece for your fun gathering!   You can create this in less than an hour !  Gather your supplies and let's get started!

  • Cut green card stock to 3 x 4...7 pieces.  Mark with a pencil in the center 1 1/2" from the bottom and cut up to the point from each side creating the banner pieces.
  • Die cut game day letters. If you don't have dies, you can paint the letters with a thin brush or use chalk.
  • Draw the boundary lines at the top of each piece with chalk or a white pen or pencil.
  • The centerpiece is dark brown card stock cut the same as green pieces.
  • Use strips of white card stock for "stitching" and stripes or use paint or draw with chalk.
  • Punch two holes on the top edge of each banner piece.
  • String with baker's twine or jute.
  • Hang on a wall, on edge of the table, or use as part of your tablescape carefully laying around bowls or platters.  You can even hang on your front door to greet your guests!

See the creation of this banner and simple game day treat box in this video recording below.

Now it's time to create your Game Day banner and get ready for your Super Bowl celebration!
