Cardmaking Tip: Fixing Mistakes and Keeping It Real

Today's cardmaking tip video is keeping it real regarding fixing mistakes.  Initially, it started out as a cardmaking video tutorial but it just wasn't heading in the right direction as far as tutorials go.  I was encountering one "oops" after another.  Finally, I just threw my hands up in the air and muttered "Are you KIDDING me??!!"  At that point, it was time to press stop while recording and go to Plan B.

With the next recording, I decided that it would be a good idea to just give a tip on how to fix some of my mistakes.  Good idea, right?  Sure it is.  While I wasn't totally happy with the fix and the outcome, I decided to go ahead with it.  The story needed to be told. :)

See this cardmaking tips, mistakes, and keeping it real video on You Tube HERE.

While the card didn't turn out how I had hoped, it is finished and I will send it to someone.

Lesson...we don't need to be so hard on ourselves when things are not "perfect".  We were not made to be perfect.  We were meant to be real, kind, and the best version of ourselves.  And, that's what we should all be working toward.  All attainable...progress not perfection.

Now if you like the products used on today's card, take a look at this post with a cute card and box.

Stampin' Blends Tip with Magical Day

Magical-day-stampin-blends-tipIt's a Magical kind of Day with this cute card and a Stampin' Blends tip. Oh my goodness!  I love this set!  Did you see the little knight on the card that was featured on Monday? These images are a lot of fun to color with Stampin' Blends, beautiful alcohol markers.  The supply on these is getting low so be sure you order yours soon!  The Pink Pirouette and Pool Party blends are not available but most of the others were still available as of this writing.

For today's technique tip, we will be using the Color Lifter to add some definition to the image.  The Color Lifter actually lifts the color off the paper.  I think it is so cool!  I'm by no means an expert in coloring with the Blends but I just have fun with it and encourage you to do so, too!  The best way to "learn" is to just play around with these markers.  You will be surprised how easy it is!

Let's take a look at today's video with Magical Day and Stampin' Blends.

Lisa's Inklings:

  • This image is stamped and colored on Thick Whisper White card stock.
  • Always use Memento Tuxedo Black Ink when using the Stampin' Blends alcohol markers.
  • Use the Color Lifter to add dimension and accent to your images.

Tip for Using the Basket Weave Embossing Folder

Basket-weave-embossing-folder-tipLast week, on my Facebook Live broadcast, I shared a card with a fun tip with the new Basket Weave Textured Impressions Embossing Folder.  This embossing folder is included in a beautiful bundle with stamp set seen above, Blossoming Basket.  It is one of the new Sale-A-Bration choices that you can earn for FREE!

In today's video tutorial, we will actually use the embossing folder as a stamp.  This technique is easy and actually gives the impression more dimension.  Use the folder without ink on any color card stock and it is just as rich and beautiful.

Ready for the video?  Let's take a look...

If you are not able to see the video above, CLICK HERE to view on You Tube.

Lisa's Inklings:

  • The Basket Weave embossing folder is a Dynamic folder which means it is thicker that other embossing folders from Stampin' Up!
  • Apply ink to the inside of the folder that has the Stampin' Up! brand on the outside.
  • Just lightly tap the ink pad to the inside of the folder on the ONE side.
  • To run these Dynamic folders through your Big Shot, you will need a platform with no extra platform layers, a cutting plate, and your folder with card stock inside.  That's it! No cutting plate on top!

Organization Tip for Card Makers and Paper Crafters

Cardstock-organization-tipAs a card maker and paper crafter, I'm sure you can relate to the idea of the need for organization regarding card stock.

Let's face it, we deal with a LOT of paper. Big pieces, small pieces, scraps (whatever you want to call it), you need some sort of organization if you plan on actually using it for a project, right?

Today's tip is a "Part 2" to our card stock cutting tip from earlier this month (see it here).  It will speak to the "method to the madness" and you all know what I'm talking about there.

Let's take a look at the video and maybe it will spark an idea for your space/closet/area where you create.  Let's give it a whirl...

See this organizational tip for card makers and paper crafters on You Tube HERE.

While this idea won't work for everyone, maybe it will be of help in what you can do to make your work and creating area more organized which in turn will help you be more productive.

The plastic storage drawers can be found at most big box stores or at Amazon at the link below:

I have some 12 x 12 stacking drawers to stack most of my full packages and 12 x 12 card stocks and designer papers.

For some beautiful storage options for papers, punches, inks, etc., visit the Stamp-n-Storage site.

As a card maker and paper crafter, I hope you've found this information organization helpful and I hope you'll share with me your ideas that have proved helpful for you!
